Bauhaus, Europe’s leading home improvement, gardening, and DIY retailer, operates over 250 locations. In Hungary, the retailer had relied on Magento 1 since 2015, with Bluprintx providing ongoing support. To meet evolving customer needs and technological advancements, Bauhaus Hungary sought to transition to Magento 2, aiming to enhance performance, scalability, and maintainability.
Bauhaus partnered with Bluprintx to leverage Magento 2’s out-of-the-box features while minimizing third-party extensions. The transition included optimizing workflows, aligning processes with Magento’s core architecture, and moving unrelated features to dedicated systems. Bluprintx developed a standalone logistics app tailored for Bauhaus warehouses, integrated with Magento and designed for barcode scanners. Additionally, the team customized Unirgy’s uMarketplace Suite for vendor dropshipping and in-store pickup and connected Magento to the company’s ERP, Pimcore, logistics, marketing, and accounting systems, ensuring seamless data flow. The result is a future-ready platform built for efficiency and growth.
Effective knowledge transfer and strategic planning were key to the success of Bauhaus Hungary’s Magento 2 implementation. Having been on Magento 1 since 2015, Bauhaus had worked closely with Bluprintx to support and enhance their site. For the Magento 2 migration, Bluprintx leveraged years of insights to optimize site flows and streamline processes, removing non-core features and ensuring a smooth transition.
The focus was on harnessing Magento 2 Commerce’s out-of-the-box capabilities to minimize third-party extensions, prioritizing long-term maintainability and efficiency. The team worked closely with Bauhaus to align workflows with Magento’s core logic, transitioning non-e-commerce features to dedicated systems for improved performance and flexibility.
The new site boasts cleaner, more intuitive navigation, simplifying both the user experience and the administrative interface. By reducing dependencies, the platform will be easier to upgrade to future Magento versions, keeping Bauhaus ahead of the curve. Administrative tasks that once required custom features and third-party extensions can now be handled with Magento’s PageBuilder and Content Staging, streamlining content management.
A standout development was the custom Logistics tool, designed to overcome previous Magento limitations. Built for Bauhaus’ warehouse staff, it’s mobile-optimized and includes barcode scanning capabilities. The standalone logistics software integrates seamlessly with Magento, enabling smooth data flow.
Additionally, Bluprintx implemented and customized Unirgy’s uMarketplace Suite for vendor dropshipping and Bauhaus’ pick-up-from-store service, enhancing the customer experience by enabling online orders with in-store pickups. The project’s success was also driven by the integration of Bauhaus’ custom ERP, Pimcore, and core systems—including Logistics, Marketing, and Accounting—via enterprise-level connectors for seamless cross-department operations.
